I have learned a very important lesson over the last two weeks – I cannot live without my crafting studio. Today is the day that California Closets will be installing my storage unit so I’ve been cleaning and discarding and moving things for the last month, but especially for the last two weeks. That has been important (“that’s where I put that [insert item here]! I’ve been looking everywhere! [obviously not the right places]) in this process but right now, I can’t do a thing in my studio.
My Grandmother Clark was an amazing painter – oil, watercolor, and china! I still have several of her china painted pieces. They are beautiful and make me think of her. My mother was an amazing seamstress. (“Mom, can you make my wedding dress?” “Of course, dear, let’s go to the fabric store.”) Not only did she make most of my and my sister’s clothes while we were growing up, but she also made my wedding dress and the shirt my husband wore. My sister inherited the sewing gene – I did not. My favorite tool when I was sewing was the seam ripper – to rip out the last thing I had just stitched because it was wrong.
I probably started paper crafting with scrapbooks in about 2008 or 2009. I was introduced to it through my friends at a class and I was hooked. I could finally cut a straight line! With the help of the fabulous paper cutter. I joined Stampin’ Up! In August 2010 because my mother and husband were doing craft shows selling their products – handmade wool jackets by mom and gorgeous photographs by my husband. I didn’t have anything to do while we sat at the booths for hours on end. I figured I could make some cards with my stamps, ink and paper from Stampin’ Up!
I’ve been without my crafting supplies for long periods before, but I was working a full-time job, so it didn’t have the same effect. But now that I’m retired from full-time work, my crafting studio is my happy place. Even when my creative mojo is missing, I love going into my studio to tidy up a bit. That helps me get the mojo back.
So today, after California Closet is done, I get to “tidy up” a bit to put everything in its place. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. I cannot wait to show you what it looks like when I put everything back together! Stay tuned! And remember to keep on crafting….
