Fun Cards with Masking tape

Hello all! I had some fun playing with Stampin’ Up!’s masking paper. I had some (technically two packs because I forgot I bought the first one!), so I created these two cards for a stencils class that I held a few weeks ago. First and foremost – a tip on the masking paper – it is REALLY sticky! So, I suggest you cut the size you need, peel off the backing and stick it somewhere on your clothes to reduce the stickiness. Seriously, you need to slap it on your pants or shirt a few times to make it less sticky. On the “Thank you” card, it wasn’t as important to remove the stickiness because you only move the masking paper two times. But on the sun rays, “Hello there” card, you want to reduce a lot of the stickiness because it will start to pull up your cardstock as you move it to create the sun rays. All the products that I used on these cards are listed below.

  • Instructions for the Hello There sun rays card: Cut card base to 8.5″ by 5.5″, score at 4.25″. Using a 5.25″ x 4″ piece of Basic White cardstock, place your masking paper at an angle starting at the bottom corner. Remember to leave some “white space” on the edge so it looks like sun rays. Use a Blending Brush or sponge dipped in Crushed Curry to blend ink onto the cardstock along the edge of the masking paper. Peel and move the masking paper to a new location, leaving white space and blend more ink onto the white paper. Repeat the process until you have covered the entire white cardstock. Punch a piece of vellum cardstock with the 2″ circle punch. Stamp your sentiment onto Crushed Curry cardstock using Memento ink, punch out with 1.75″ circle punch. Adhere white cardstock to base. Adhere sentiment piece to vellum, then adhere to cardstock using dimensionals. Done! I like that this card can be used for so many occasions. And who doesn’t love a sunrise?
  • For the Thank You card, I used Azure Afternoon as the base (8.5″ x 5.5″, scored & folded at 4.25″) and a 5.25″ x 4″ piece of Basic White cardstock. I placed a piece of masking paper at approximately the bottom third of the card. Using a blender brush or sponge, I put Granny Apple Green ink on the card stock. I moved the masking paper up to approximately the top third of the card stock and using a blender brush, put Flirty Flamingo ink on the cardstock. I blended the Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green ink lightly together. Then, I removed the masking paper and used Azure Afternoon ink on the top section. I used the outline images from Dainty Details with Memento ink. I love the way this card turned out.

You could use more fall like colors if you needed a masculine birthday card or some of our grays if you needed a sympathy card. My thanks to fellow demonstrator, Liz Shannon, from the UK for these card ideas.

I’d love to see what you create! Post your comment with a photo of your card. If you have any questions, please contact me! And happy stamping!
